Mental Maintenance

Is the grass greener on the other side?  This means more opportunities or a fresh start, right?  A phrase we have heard for decades.  But what really awaits for us on the other side? What are we looking for?  What if…we had everything right in front of us?

I stumbled upon a quote a while ago that gave me an interesting perspective.

“The grass is greener where you water it.” -Neil Barringham

The meaning doesn’t go away, but simply implies that you have the power, the choice, the mindset to make things better for yourself, yourself.  Take care of what you have right in front of you.

What are you thankful for?  Are your needs being met? Are you truly happy?  Perspective: could it be worse? Stay. Look around and seek the possibilities right where you are and water your grass often.

Write a comment below and share your own thoughts and maybe experiences to encourage others to use this as a mantra too…  Take care of you.  -Hannah

Getting UNSTUCK

Stagnant. A body of water with no movement.  Stagnant human…someone who is dull, lethargic, lacks development, sluggish, inactive… sound familiar?  I think there are many moments or even periods of time in our life when we as human beings become just that. Stagnant.  It’s not a place I really like to be but I’ve been there. It feels like you are in quicksand but are not progressing downward…stuck….feeling alone. And it kinda sucks a lot to get stuck…in your thoughts with a lack of motivation…

A SIMPLE recipe for getting UNSTUCK:

MOTIVATION- personal motivation. Grab ahold of a positive mindset and start making a small change.  Start with a vision board (successful people do this, even celebrities). Visualize yourself doing something you want to do.  Or you can journal it.  Write it down. People who put their aspirations to paper and pen have a greater success rate (over 75%) for making some sort of change or setting a goal than people who don’t wright it down.

PURPOSE with a dash of PERSPECTIVE. Put one foot in front of the other- Now you need to go out and do it.  Put your energy where your thought is. Go! No one but YOU are going to grab YOU by the shoulders and say “come on” let’s go, but YOU.  What do you want?  What makes you happy? What is this burning desire that you want for yourself? What are you passionate about? Remember I just said that you should write some stuff down? Well now you have some UNSTUCK homework…

A whole-lot-a BELIEVE IN yourself.  Start thinking to the future and put the past behind you.  Want to lose weight?  Do it.  What’s holding you back? Your fixed mindset about how “I’ve tried and failed once (or several times) so I’m just going to fail again” is an excuse. Yup, with an attitude or mindset like that, you will.  Come on.  Open yourself up to new ideas (like ditch the soda first).  Make small changes. Baby steps.  Start listening to yourself (inner voice) and your positive mindset.

You can do this. Write your positive thoughts down, make a vision board, set small achievable goals and that is a good start in the right direction for getting UNSTUCK. Stagnant no longer will exist in your thoughts….you are moving forward. Moving….flowing….gravitating towards a more positive you…

Planning a build…

The leap was made in the spring of 2017. My husband and I finally purchased some land.  I say finally because we had been looking at real estate and land for several years.   We love the home we are in, but knew it wasn’t our forever home. Our dreams became a reality when the land officially became ours in August of last year.

Building a home had always been a dream of mine, but my husband wanted this to become a reality.  I knew building was not going to be a walk in the park.  It’s expensive, it’s stressful, and it’s a long process . . . oh, joy!

It has been 7 months since the land has been ours and lots of things have happened.

If you are thinking of building.  This will test your:

1- Patience               2- Organizational skills                3- Communication

There is much to say with what we have learned over the past months.   To sum it up, nothing gets done fast. Nothing.

Here are 3 tips for you that have helped me so far:

1- Pinterest. I have boards for every room in the house, and exterior.  It’s a great way to organize thoughts, ideas, wishes, but also to communicate your vision with your husband 🙂 and contractor.

2- A website. Costtobuild.net. I literally googled “cost to build estimator”.  This is a good point of reference to begin the process of planning a budget (and you don’t have to talk to anyone or pay a contractor to generate the dollar amount).

3- Tape measure. I walked around my house for months with a tape measure. I even asked my family what dimensions the rooms in their home were.

So . . . At this point, we have had 2 draft of plans and within the month the final prints will be done.  Next step is handing them over to our contractor to get a final estimate to build!
